William King, Gemologist

Originally from Corona Del Mar, Newport Beach, CA.

• William King graduated from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)  in 1975.
•  Mr. King was a jewelry appraiser for Butterfield & Butterfield Auctioneers and Appraisers, established 1865, (now Bonhams & Butterfields) in San Francisco.

• He has held the highest designation of Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers, Master Gemologist Appraiser for more than twenty five years.

• Mr. King was one of the founding members and Vice President of the Estate Jewelers Association of America, an international trade organization of wholesalers of antique and period jewelry.

• After leaving Butterfields & Butterfields, Mr. King appraised jewelry for Shreve & Co, established in 1852, San Francisco, one of the most important jewelers, as well as more than twenty five retail jewelers in the San Francisco Bay area.

His other clients include: Federal and State Court of California expert witness, US Marshall Services, Drug Enforcement Agency, San Francisco Police Department, State of California unclaimed bank safety deposit boxes

For the last ten years Mr. King has been a diamond broker based in Bangkok, Thailand. Mr. King traveled to Myanmar (Burma), Indonesia, Nepal and Taiwan buying mostly antique cut diamonds.

Also, while in Bangkok, Mr. King was a diamond buyer and diamond consultant to jewelry manufacturers including John Hardy Jewelry.
